We are excited to present the following speakers for the
2019 Midwest Student Conclave!
Dan Lorenz, DPT, PT, ATC, LAT, CSCS
Dan Lorenz, DPT, PT, ATC, LAT, CSCS is the Director of Sports Medicine at Lawrence Memorial Hospital/OrthoKS in Lawrence, KS. Previously, he was an owner and Director of Physical Therapy for Specialists in Sports and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (SSOR), an outpatient physical therapy practice based in Overland Park, KS with three locations. He has a B.S. in Health Sciences with an emphasis in Athletic Training from Grand Valley State University in 1999 and a M.S in Physical Therapy from Grand Valley State in 2001. In 1997, he was an athletic training intern for the Chicago White Sox Major League Baseball team. From 2004-2005, he completed the Duke University Sports Physical Therapy Fellowship. Formerly, he was an assistant athletic trainer and physical therapist for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2005-2007. In 2009, he earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine in St. Augustine, FL. He has served as a rehabilitation consultant for numerous local sports teams including Sporting Kansas City, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas City Mavericks, and also many local colleges including Mid-America Nazarene University and University of Missouri-Kansas City. He is currently the Chair of the Sports Performance Enhancement Special Interest Group for the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy. Dr. Lorenz has been published several times in peer-reviewed journals and has been an invited speaker numerous times at local, state, and national conferences in sports medicine. In 2018, Dan was recognized by the NSCA as the Sports Medicine/Rehabilitation Professional of the Year and in 2014, he was awarded the inaugural Distinguished Physical Therapy Alumni Award from Grand Valley State University.
Stacia Bone, PT, MS
Stacia Bone, PT, MS is a physical therapist at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She received her Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1996, and is currently completing her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Arcadia University. Stacia holds her Certificate in Vestibular Rehabilitation from the APTA, as well as a clinical competency certification in cervicogenic dizziness. Her practice includes treating patients with concussions, including local middle school, high school and university athletes and assisting them in returning to play safely. Stacia’s clinical expertise with treating visual-vestibular contributions and cervicogenic involvement have allowed comprehensive care for those recovering from concussions. She also has a special interest in vestibular and balance dysfunction, as well as fall prevention, and helped to start a Tai Chi for balance program in the Lawrence community. Stacia enjoys educating peers, the community and medical staff on concussion care and vestibular dysfunction. She is a member of the APTA neurological section and vestibular special interest group.
Ryan Duncan, DPT
Ryan Duncan is Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy and Neurology at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. He graduated with his Master's in Physical Therapy from Maryville University in 2008. He completed his post-professional DPT and Master's of Science in Clinical Investigation at Washington University. He is involved in research studying how Parkinson's disease affects movement and how exercise can be used to improve mobility in this population. He teaches in courses focused on neurologic rehabilitation and professional issues. He is involved with the Missouri Physical Therapy Association and currently serves as Chief Delegate. His work on the MPTA's board of directors focuses on establishing legislative priorities for the Association and regularly meeting with legislators to advance issues related to physical therapy in Missouri.
Mark Fisher, MD, FAAPMR
Mark Fisher, MD, FAAPMR, performed his fellowship in Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine at Children’s Mercy - Kansas City, and his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa, Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa. Dr. Fisher has expertise in caring for the musculoskeletal, biomechanical, neurologic and developmental considerations in youth with disabilities. His passion and focus are always on maximizing the function and independence of his patients. He believes supporting equitable access to recreation, physical activity, and sport is a powerful way to do this.

Coming from the North/South on I-35:
Can park on any floor – take stairs or elevator to the top floor (5th floor) to the walking bridge
If park in the surface parking lot:
Park in any empty stall – walk toward the “cliff” side of the parking garage to the stairs or elevator, and take to the top floor (5th floor) of the Bluff Parking Garage and go over the walking bridge.

There will be volunteers and signage to help guide you to the conclave!

Coming from the North/South on I-35:
- Take Rainbow Blvd exit
- Travel 1 mile south on Rainbow Blvd.
- Turn left on Adams Street (just before reach 39th and Rainbow; look for signs)
- Take the first right into the parking lot/Bluff Parking Garage entrance
- Park in either the surface parking lot or enter the Bluff Parking Garage – gates should be open with green lights

Do I have to be a KPTA member to attend?
No, you do not have to be a KPTA/APTA member to attend this conference! Although it is held by KPTA student members, it is only encouraged that you consider joining the KPTA! All DPT and PTA students in the Kansas area are invited to attend.
What is the dress code?
Business casual is preferred!
Is there a fee to attend the conference?
The Midwest Student Conclave is completely FREE to attend. The only costs a student might encounter is if they must travel and stay in a hotel.
Will food be provided at the conference?
A light breakfast and beverages will be provided to attendees. No lunch will be provided, as the conference will not extend past lunchtime. Attendees are encouraged to join a social evening on Friday September 27th from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m at Chicken N Pickle, sponsored by Quantum Health.
Is this a conference for both students and PT/A's?
This conference is solely designed for the audience to be students in PT and PTA programs. Licensed PT's and PTA's can attend the Spring and Fall KPTA conferences, which are different than the Midwest Student Conclave.
